One of my most popular posts here at The Littlest Way is Free Bible Journaling Printables. I designed them a few years ago and I cannot count the number of friends who have downloaded them and sent me beautiful pictures of their Bible Journaling Printables as they’ve used them in their quiet time with God to dig deeper into the Word. But now, it’s time for an updated set of free printables. I’ve decided I love rainbows–especially more muted toned colored ones, but for this new set of printables I went all out with the bright rainbow colors! For those who love the more muted tones, be watching for a muted rainbow set to be offered soon.

Friends, I know me…all too well, and if I don’t have a plan in place for my quiet time with God, it can be a frustrating time of “hit or miss.” I find I am more easily distracted, less focused (yes, two very different things), not sure where to start and not really sure what to do. Now, on the other hand, if I go in with a strict plan or formula more often than not I miss the gentle moving and promptings of God; there is a happy medium to be found.
This new, updated set of Bible Journaling Printables contains seven free printable sheets for your Bible journaling:

Bible Color Code Chart
If you keep a Bible Journaling notebook or binder, this page would go in the front. There are six different color options based on the common highlighter colors. A few years ago when I was a serious color coder–now I’m not so much, but when I was, six highlighter colors was not enough! Here’s how I solved that problem using the color green since it’s first as an example. I would completely highlight verses that were about my thoughts or my mind in green. I would also use my green highlighter for passages that covered my faith life, but I would only draw a green box around those passages. I used my green highlighter for passages about my words or my mouth, but I would only underline them using the green highlighter. Finally, for verses about righteousness, I would use my green highlighter to circle the passage.
I used my green highlighter, just in different ways for four different areas or topics of study. Doing it this way, you can easily stretch the six color-coding options out to twenty-four or even more.
My favorite highlighters are Zebra Midliner 15ct Creative Marker. These are double-ended and do not bleed through the pages and I love all the beautiful colors! Using this set of 15 different highlighter colors, the color-coding possibilities are huge!
Daily Bible Journaling Page
I love this page! This Daily Bible Journaling Page gives me a great place to start but is not restrictive; it’s short, sweet, and to the point. Because this page is so direct it gives way for lots of other options, creative questions, reflections, and journaling ideas. I use this page per chapter I’m reading but you can customize it to fit how you read. It begins with noting the Book and Chapter of your Bible that you’re reading and the date. I try to remember to date my Bible journaling; it’s really interesting to look back through them and remember where I was and what was going on during that time.
The next area is for your Favorite Verse. I love this part too because it forces me to zero in on what is sometimes a large chunk of reading…or a kind of boring part of reading–sorry Leviticus. You know what I’m saying right? Following the Favorite Verse section is a section titled, “Things That Made Me Go Hmmmm” I don’t know about you but I always seem to have a lot of questions as I’m reading my Bible; this is the section where I make note of all those questions.
Let me quickly clarify something though, I write down my questions realizing I may not come across or learn the answers; I am 100% ok with this! I always figure if God needs or wants me to understand something I’m reading in my Bible, He will make sure I understand it! Having that mindset frees me to enjoy spending time with God in His Word.
The final section of the Daily Bible Journaling Page is “What I Learned.” I always try to come away from my time with God having learned something–something about Him, myself, others, etc.
The Bible contains some great stories–there’s drama, love, adventure, murder…more importantly, there’s an instruction manual for a well-lived life, a life lived with and for God. Here’s the thing we so often forget, Jesus came so that we might live an abundant life, “I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” +John 10:10
I think it’s so easy to forget that because we look around the world and try to mimic or adopt its idea of abundance. First, the world’s idea of abundance is a sham, a facade, an outright lie, a counterfeit! Second, we were not made for the world’s idea of abundance, we were made for the Lord’s abundance and His abundance is not just of and for this world, it’s an eternal abundance. And this eternal abundance looks WAAAYYYY different than what the world tries to pass off as abundance.
So the “What I Learned” section helps us separate worldly learning from eternal learning…man’s teaching and understanding from God’s teaching and understanding.
Topical Bible Study Page
Have you ever wondered, “Does God care about what I’m thinking?” Have you wondered if the Bible has anything to say about the words we speak? What about the topic of love, sex, marriage, friendship? I designed a Topical Bible Study Page to help you dig deep into the Word of God to answer those questions.
Choose a topic, let’s say friendship, and write it in the box TOPIC, then start looking up verses that relate to that topic. If your Bible has a reference section or a “Christian Living” section you might start there. You can also Google, “Friendship in the Bible” or “Bible Verses About Friendship.” On this page of the free Bible Journaling Printables you can just write the verse reference or the reference and verse, your choice.
Word Study Bible Journaling Page
The next page in the Bible Journaling Printables set is for a Word Study. Although this may look similar to the Topic Study, this is different. I use this more for how the word is used in context or finding variables of or for the word. Many people search for the original Hebrew or Greek origin of a particular word in the Bible and where that same word is used in the Old and New Testament.
I love synonyms! I actually prefer looking up synonyms over definitions; this is the page I would use to search out the synonyms and the various ways they are used in the Scriptures.
Character Sketch Journaling Page
A couple of years ago as I was reading the Bible I came to the story of Rahab. The story of this prostitute in the Old Testament and then the mention of her in the New Testament piqued my curiosity so I started doing a little research on her.
This Bible Journaling Printables post has a more detailed Character Sketch page than the one in this set. In the Bright Rainbow set, I just included a box at the bottom for you to go wild! You could doodle out the story of your character in the Bible, you could list verses or just the facts; make this your own in such a way that when this character in the Bible is mentioned, you’ll know their story in context.
Character of God Bible Journaling Page
Do you know God? I don’t mean know about God, not the “Big Guy in the Sky” or the Old Man with the long beard waiting for us to mess up so He can “Kapow!” us knowledge, but I mean know Him. Do you know God as your intimate friend, your Creator, the Lover of your soul? This Bible Journaling page will help you learn more about God.
Not only is it important to know more about God for yourself, the more we know about God, the more we can share God! We all know friends, family members, and even strangers who could use a little more…or A LOT more God in their lives. If we don’t know Him, we can’t share Him. We can’t share His love, His encouragement, His bigger plan even with an unhappy, short-sighted world.
Being able to share God and His living, active, Word with someone in pain, crisis or sorrow is one of the greatest gifts we can offer someone. Our own words are limited, selfish (even when we try to make them about others), and earthly. But when we tap into and can share the Divine Word of God, there’s a power like no other to change someone’s life!

Character of Jesus Bible Journaling Page
Basically everything above…except, God created you, but Jesus died for you. You know how when you read an amazing, self-sacrificing story on the internet and you think, “I want to more about the person who made that sacrifice!” Same with Jesus.
When you stop and consider, I mean really think about the fact that the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity came down to earth to become a man like us for the sole purpose of dying for us…Man! I want to know more about Him!!
