I am participating again this year in the 31 Days Writing Challenge. Last year I wrote for 31 Days in the Book of Sirach. This year I will be writing on 31 Days of Bible Quotes. Bible Quotes is a topic I already write about and I love the challenge of spending the next 31 days writing about them. Since school and kids activities have started, my Bible reading habit has started to look a little fluid…some days pretty good and some days not so good. So to get myself back on track, I am publicly committing to spending the next 31 days writing about Bible Quotes.

Now, I recently spent the month of August writing about Bible Journaling…so why spend another month writing about the Bible? This blog, The Littlest Way, is so named in reference to Therese the Little Flower. She was a little nun, who lived in a cloistered convert and died at the age of 24. And yet, she is a Doctor of the Church and called one of the greatest saints of our time. She spent her days doing the little things, the ordinary tasks of what we often consider mundane days. And in those little tasks, she meditated on the scriptures. And to meditate on the scriptures, she had to read the scriptures.
“Above all it’s the gospels that occupy my mind when I’m at prayer. I’m always finding fresh lights there.”
-Saint Therese the Little Flower
Therese didn’t have the quantity of books available to us now. There were no bookstores or Amazon, Kindles or Nooks. Most people in her time owned very few if any books and if they did own a book, chances are it was the Holy Bible. Do you realize, we have the ability to read hundreds of book about the Bible or that quote from the Bible, without every having to read the Bible. I have bookshelves to prove my point. That’s not right you all.
I don’t know about you, but I am in need of some “fresh lights” and something good, true and beautiful to occupy my mind when I’m at prayer instead of my never ending to do list. Too much information? That my prayer life is slipping and my Bible reading kind of wishy washy? Good. Did I just hear a few weary mommas sigh an “I hear ya.” If you’re looking for “well put together,” you are so in the wrong place. If you’re looking for “trying,” welcome!
So, 31 Days of Bible Quotes…I will be reflecting and writing about the topics I’m flipping through my large print Bible (because my girlfriends were right, after 40 my eyes did change!) looking for; things like: patience, gentleness, gossip, mercy and forgiveness. If you’ve ever Googled “What does the Bible say about…” this series is for you! I pray during these 31 days, the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be pleasing to God and encouragement to you.

How good is this?…Looking forward to reading along with you!

Welcome…as always…Clare!

Hi Jenny,
That sounds great to me. I am looking forward to your writing each day and seeing where God leads you in His Word and what He puts on your heart.
I am an empty nester and it does not get easier to make time for God and His Word when the children leave the house. Satan will always try to get us from reading God’s Word.
Have a wonderful evening. See you tomorrow!!
Jenny says
You and me both, lol!
Jenny says
Yes, such a lie to think I’ll have that elusive time some day, lol!

Can’t wait to read what you write in this next month, Jenny. And I am feeling a bit convicted about Bible reading, being many days behind in Meg Hunter Kilmer’s Bible reading plan. As you write, I will be reading, most days twice a day, to catch up. Let’s do this!
Jenny says
Absolutely! I’m behind as well, but I’m not letting that discourage or stop me. I know where those feelings come from and it’s not from God my Father.

Jenny, I am excited to read your 31 Days of Bible quotes! I do make time (most days) to read the Bible and a couple of devotional books…but I don’t think/feel I spend “enough” time REALLY into the Bible!
I love how you explained your blog name – and wrote about Saint Therese! Always great to get a “back story” or that TMI that you wrote about! I fear my blog is always sharing TMI!!
Following during this 31 days…I am taking an “easier route” this year by following the Five Minute Friday “Free Writes”…not sure which direction each word will take!
Jenny says
Good for you Barb for writing. It’s always good to accept our limitations and work with them as best we can. It just amazes me to think about all the saints through the centuries who did not have all the access, to all the things we have nowadays, that are supposed to make us more enlightened.

Sounds great. I will tell you that the bible journaling series changed.the.course.of.my.life.
Jenny says
Yay! Glad you’re with me Michelle. I would love to hear how 😉
Michelle says
I wouldn’t know where to begin except to say that I have experienced a revival of the heart and a jump start to a real renewal of the mind.
Thanking God today.

Thanks be to God Michelle!
