Has my writing on Bible quotes about patience been an exercise in patience for you? I mean, it’s already after 11pm tonight and this post is just now being written. Can I tell you, you and me both sisters! I go to bed with dreams and ideas and wake up with plans and goals…and a husband and children and friends and bills and basically a life that doesn’t always care what my own personal plans, dreams, goals, and ideas were. As a matter of fact, not only do I think my life doesn’t care, I think I hear it chuckle when my stuff gets totally derailed. This verse from Galatians we’re focusing on today, it ends with the words, “…if we do not lose heart.” You know how we talked about we could do anything for one day? Well, we can do something even longer, if don’t lose heart.
Bible Quotes About Patience
“And let us not grow weary…in well doing…for in due season…we shall reap…if we do not lose heart.”
That’s how I think that patience verse should be broken up. Many of these Bible quotes about patience are so multifaceted, they need to broken up into as few of words as possible so we can really take them in, roll them around our mind and tuck them in our heart.
I get it ladies. I know because I’ve said it, “I GIVE UP.” Sometimes I’ve said it in a harsh, sarcastic tone. Other times in a “whatever” voice. There have been times where I’ve said it as I was literally walking away. One translation of this part of the verse reads, “We can’t allow ourselves to get tired of living the right way.” And that right way? It means we keep on trying. It means we keep on loving. It means we keep on keepin’ on. That’s “right way” living y’all. And how often do we find ourselves trying to live the right way only to be met with roadblocks, opposition and sometimes flat-out hostility. Ever have someone tell you, “You used to…be more…be less…” Yep, right way living brings those words right out of those who gave up, got tired, said “I quit,” and walked away. They lost their patience–in the short term and in life.
Can someone please tell me how to measure spiritual and emotional seasons like I do the Four seasons? It would be so helpful! “Oh, this is just a season,” a well-intentioned soul will tell us. And I want to respond, “When does the forecast predict I’ll be out of this one?” Good or bad, seasons are hard on some of us (ahem). “Due season” means the “right” or “proper” time. Only God, the creator of all–us and time–knows the right and proper season. My boy read to me recently in his science book that if the Earth were just the slightest bit any other direction or tilt, we would burn up or freeze to death. God really does know what He is doing, down to the smallest detail. An Olympic hundredth of a second has nothing on God’s timing. God really does know the right time for everything.
And finally, some synonyms for reap are: gain, obtain, produce, realize, receive, gather, glean, profit, secure. Now read that verse inserting some of the synonyms. I think the word “reap” may throw some of us, but I think we can all understand, “we shall realize…we shall obtain…we shall profit…” Look, God doesn’t make us wait as some cruel joke. He’s not on the other side of a two-way mirror laughing His head off at our impatience over His timing or one of His creatures timing–toddlers anyone? He’s taking fatherly care of us by ordering the season we are in for our benefit–for our ultimate salvation.
And finally, “if we don’t lose heart,” if we don’t give up, if we don’t faint. How about, “if we don’t lose our patience.” Patience with our God, ourselves and others.
So we keep on. Plans change and we change with them. Ideas are tested and we find new ways to make them work. Goals are adjusted and dreams–we keep on dreaming.
