I took pictures as I journaled through Matthew 22. Some days I journal old school–pen and paper. Other days I pull out my journaling Bible and art supplies. To show you how simple it can be to artistically journal in your Bible, I used simple supplies: Washi tape, stamps, a hole punch and some string. Let me share my Bible journaling with you.
POWERful Bible Journaling: Matthew 22
P –On those days when I just don’t “feel it” Lord; when I don’t feel like sitting down and reading my Bible, please remind me of a prayer I earnestly prayed a while ago, “Lord, please give me a desire to read Your Word.” Thank You Lord for answering that prayer a few years ago and continuing to answer it now.
O –Maybe it’s just me, but again, as I move through Matthew and get closer to the crucifixion of Jesus, the pace seems a little more hurried. As I read Matthew 22, I felt like Jesus was trying to get it all in. I felt like He was teaching and asking questions and answering questions, all in anticipation for the day when He would no longer physically walk with the apostles and disciples.
W —vs 39…The second most important commandment is like it: “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’
E –This is a tough one sometimes isn’t? Love my neighbor…As I Love Myself. What happens when I’m not lovin’ myself? How well do I love someone else when I’m kicking myself for this and scolding myself for that?
R –“Where there is no love, put love — and you will find love.” –St. John of the Cross If I want to love others, I must first love myself. If I want others to love me, I must love myself…and them…and most importantly…You Lord.
Here are the steps I went through to journal Matthew 22.
- I turned to Matthew 22 in my journaling Bible and realized that a verse in Matthew 23 I had used water colors for, bled through.
- I grabbed some Washi tape and tore it the length, or almost length of the page. I then placed it in the area I wanted. Washi tape added color and covered the bleed through.
- Next, I used a hole punch to make two holes across the top of the page.
- I added some colored twine with a piece of pretty paper attached. On the tag I wrote verse 39.
- To finish, I used some alphabet stamps to stamp out verse 37 on top of the Washi tape.
I love using Washi tape in my journaling Bible. It’s pretty and easy to work with. Most times, if I need to move the tape around, I can gently peel it and re-position it.
If you have the desire to try Bible journaling, but are afraid or don’t feel artistic enough, I hope this post will encourage you to give it a try! You might also enjoy this post, Bible Journaling Tips for the Hesitant.

P- Dear Lord, help me to draw near to You thru Your Blessed Mother. Please strengthen me in my devotion to her and help me allow her to bring me closer to YOU
O- Jesus invites all of us to His wedding feast in Heaven. But how are we preparing for it? Will we be chosen? Jesus once again condemns testing Him. As the song lyrics go “we walk by Faith and not by sight” Jesus categorizes the 10 commandments into 2 great commands. The 1st 3 pertaining to God, last 7 pertaining to neighbor ….thus 2 great commandments….Love God above all and Love neighbor as yourself.
W: Mt 22:21 Repay to Caesar what is Caesars and to God what belongs to God
E- I often reflect on how blessed I am to live now and not at the time of the apostles. I’m not sure I would have acted any differently than the Pharisees and Sadducees.
P- Lord help me to never forget ALL I have comes from You and to be generous in giving back. Lord I believe, help my unbelief. Help me to practice what i Preach
