Can you believe we are in the last days of the year? I remember all the hub-bub when the calendar was getting ready to roll over to the year 2000 (said in an old granny voice) and here we are getting ready to welcome another year. Speaking of welcoming the New Year, I created a Free New Year’s Eve Printable–What a Year! This is a fun way to look back over the past year and consider the new one. It also has a place at the bottom for your Word of the Year. If you don’t know what a Word of the Year is or haven’t ever chosen one, I’ll be posting about mine for this year soon. Enjoy the Free New Year’s Printable and Black Eye Pea Recipes for your New Year’s Day celebration.
Free New Year’s Eve Printable
This “What a Year” printable is so much fun to fill out! I’m going to hole punch ours this year and put them in a binder so we can easily look back over them year after year. Right now they’re just laying somewhere in a basket in my closet. I added a new catagory this year, “Biggest Surprise.” This will be a fun one to think of.
And speaking of the New Year what are some of your must-haves for New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day? Southerner’s must-have Black Eye Peas for New Years. It’s supposed to be “Good Luck” or some silly thing like that. First, I don’t believe in luck and second, I think Black Eye Peas, on their own or cooked with ham, taste like dirt–don’t hate. But we eat them anyway because it’s what we do according to Chris. I have found a couple of really yummy ways to make them.
Black Eye Pea Dip
14oz can of Black Eye Peas
1/4 of an onion–chopped fine
1/4 cup of sour cream
1 jalapeno pepper–chopped fine
1 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
3 Tablespoons salsa
Hot sauce to taste
Salt and Pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350°
Drain and partially mash the Black Eye Peas. Add all the other ingredients and mix well. Spread the mixture into a baking dish and bake for 20-30 minutes until hot and bubbly. Serve with tortilla chips, pita chips or crackers.
Black Eye Pea Salsa
1 can Black Eye Peas–drained and rinsed
3 stalks of celery–finely chopped
3 green onions–sliced thin
1 red bell pepper–chopped fine
1 cucumber–peeled, seeded and chopped fine
1 jalapeno pepper–seeded and chopped fine
1 cup cilantro–chopped fine
Dressing
1/2 cup of olive oil
1/3 cup of vinegar
2-3 Tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon celery seed
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1/2 teaspoon salt
pepper to taste
Mix dressing ingredients together and set aside. Mix the Black Eye Peas with all the vegetables in a large bowl. Pour the dressing over and mix well. Refrigerate. Serve with tortilla chips or pita chips.
Print and share this free New Year’s Eve “What a Year” Printable! YOu don’t have to wait until New Year’s Eve to fill it out. Christmas family dinner would be a great time as well!

2. Happy New Year Banner This one isn’t dated so you could use it year after year.
3. If you have a goal or New Year’s Resolution to be more intentional in prayer, check out this lovely Rustic Prayer Board. I like the fact that you can change the prayers in and out. Maybe cut out some pretty scrapbook paper shapes and write names on them as prayer intentions come up.

I just mixed up your black eyed pea dip for my evening shift. As a self proclaimed home chef, I always like to taste during the cooking process. This may not even make it into the oven and I may have to go buy more ingredients for a second dip. Thank you for sharing. Happy New Year!

I love the printable! Very creative. 🙂 Our New Year’s tradition is to crack open a coconut! We started it 3 years ago when my curious 3 year old son asked about a coconut, so we bought one and cracked it open and 2 more kids later, we are still cracking open our New Year’s coconut. It’s weird, but we love to be different! 😉 HAPPY NEW YEAR!
Blessings-
Christine

What a great Printable! Thanks for sharing that! We used to be fun and have parties and gatherings and this printable would be so fun to fill out in a crowd! I may print it off and do it in our small group even though we don’t meet until NEXT Wednesday due to the holidays! (And can you believe it… I’ve never had black eyes peas?)

I would not recommend eating Black Eye Peas straight, but that’s just me. The dip is yummy!

Likewise Linda. We started filling out the printable last year and it was fun to look back over them from just a year ago. I’m going to keep them in a box or binder so we can look back over the years each New Year’s Eve.

We eat black-eye peas every new year for the reason you listed. My husband’s family is from Alabama and they say it is the thing to do. I am going to try that dip! It sounds yummy!
Jenny says
You’ll like the dips Erica, I actually look forward to my yearly dose of Black Eye Peas now. Have a blessed New Year!
Jenny says
Did you try the dip Erica? It’s the only way I really care to eat Black Eye Peas. I have had a BEP Chili that wasn’t too bad.
