Praying for…
I am praying for a friend at church dealing with some uncertain health concerns. I am praying for my neighbor and thier business. I’m offering prayers of thanksgiving for another year…tomorrow is my birthday–43!! And that we got our family Christmas pictures in; Veronica wanted us to wait until her braces were off. They came off the week before Christmas and by the time we were able to take the pictures and order them…let’s just say thank goodness Christmas is more than a day and the cards will go out sometime this week.
Pondering…
I’m pondering the year ahead. I love making plans–in my head and on paper. I’m not always so good at the day to day follow through. So in addition to the plans, I need to set myself up for success and not sabotage myself by too many late nights, not feeding my soul or body well and getting too easily distracted.

Bible Journaling…
Have you started following along our year of Bible Journaling? So far I’m 4 for 4! Gotta celebrate the little things right? The Bible in a Year reading plan we are following is linked in this post, Bible Journaling in the New Year.
Around the House…
The usual…clean it up and try to get rid of some stuff. I need to place some money by some stuff and see if it multiplies like the stuff seems to!
In the Kitchen…
Lots of beans and rice, rice and beans…and venison.
Our Domestic Church…
The 6th is the Feast of the Epiphany so we will celebrate that day. Monday night our parish will bless Epiphany water and sing Vespers. A week later we’ll have our annual Epiphany Home Blessing.
Saving Money…
We are going back to “Gazelle Intent” (Thanks Dave Ramsey) for the year. When we signed papers on our house 5 years ago, our intention was to try to pay it off in 5 years…I know–crazycrazycrazy! But what a great goal to aim for. Our 5 years is up February 1st…we’re still about 1 year out though. So now our goal is to really buckle down and pay it off by the end of 2015…10 months later than our original goal. I will be sharing ways we are saving money and tightening our budget this year.
Captured…
It snowed a couple of days after Christmas. To my Northern friends…please, let us think this dusting is actually real live snow.
What a great list! This reminded me that I need to get my 1000Gifts journal out and get back to writing things down as well! Happy New Year!
Sounds as though you are making great progress on all counts! You should be pleased!
Thanks for the visit Susan and taking the time to leave a comment.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!
We got a sprinkling of snow too… over a sizeable layer of ice. Thank goodness it melted off quickly this time!
I think it takes another Southerner…even farther South than me…to appreciate our “snow.”
Happy early birthday!
Thanks Amanda! My older girls are making my Aunt Delores’ carrot cake as I type this!
I loved this reflection and thought into this new year. We cleaned house last week on the first day of the year. Praying for your friend who is sick.
Thanks Amanda. I swept the floor first thing this morning and you would never know it now! Such is my amazing life…a constant process of cleaning.
Thankful for:
2 five-day “weekends” with my family in the last two weeks
Cuddles with hubby
A husband who doesn’t yell,, disparage, nor scold when I show him something I’ve mismanaged
Some very “me” Christmas gifts
A new plan for a new year!
Praying for:
My daughter’s first week back with her middle school students
My husband’s first full work week of the new year
A friend’s pay-it-forward initiative on Facebook
Enough discipline to make a couple of new practices into habits
Bible Journaling:
Also 4for4 on Meg’s plan. I really like how she’s arranged the readings. And Psalm 4 gave me some good prayer points last night!
Listening to:
The washing machine spin
Pondering:
The mountains of paper modern life seems to need
Around the house:
Putting away the last of the gifts, planning a new way to pack up “Christmas” this week.
In the kitchen:
We’ve had large meals lately, due to the two holidays, followed by meals made of leftovers. Another point of gratitude: my family never complains about leftovers! My daughter made delicious claypot lemon chicken on Saturday, and we have half of that left over, plus I have eggplants that will become parmagiana tonight. Menus are almost planned for Wednesday’s commissary run.
Saving money:
Our only debt is our mortgage. I am so very very grateful for that! Working on paying that down faster and bulking up retirement savings so that when hubby wants to stop getting up each morning for the long drive in, he can.
Hi Kaethe. As we made out our budget, I was just so thankful that we could skip over all the credit card and miscellaneous debt…what a hardship. Yay that we’re four for four…now five for me and you?
Yes, now 5 for 5!
