Pondering…
I am pondering myself right now. My relationships and how I interact with others. I’m also pondering how good it is to be here–my parish in particular. Through different circumstances I’ve had to visit other parishes the last couple of weeks–one of them being my old parish I left a little over two years ago. I thought it might feel like a homecoming–it did not. It made me miss my true home parish. It felt good today to be “home” in my own parish.

Bible Journaling…
I got a little behind this week on my reading (Read the Bible in a Year). As I find pockets of time this week I am going to try to catch up–even though I firmly believe I’m not behind. I have been using a couple of resources as I read this past week. The Ignatius Catholic Study Bible: New Testament for notes as I read the New Testament readings and since there is not an Old Testament one available yet, the individual ones for the Book of Genesis
and Exodus
. I’m also using A Practical Commentary on Holy Scripture
. I love this book! It is written for school age children–perfect for me–with nice reflection questions, commentary and explanations.
Around the House…
My washing machine is dead. Thanks be to God and Dave Ramsey we have an emergency fund. Saturday night I transferred money as we walked out the door to go buy a new washing machine. We looked at Lowe’s and Home Depot and went with the one at Lowe’s because it was cheaper. When we went to pay, our debit card was declined because the transfer wasn’t showing up yet…UGH! So our plan was to run in Sunday and pay for the washer so they could deliver it Friday–I know, 5 days of not doing laundry…UGH! I quickly checked to see if I could place the order online and started reading the reviews of the washing machine we had picked out. Almost everyone HATED it…UGH! So now we are researching washing machines. We want a top loader. The washing machine before this one was a front loader and it always smelled.
So, tell me how much you love your top loader–Make and Model–and help us find a great washing machine.
In the Kitchen…
All right, for real I am starting back on Trim Healthy Mama. I just feel better–not giving into sugar for one! The price listed in $5 cheaper than when I bought mine last year.
Our Domestic Church…
Tomorrow is the feast of Candlemas. I need to go buy some candles tomorrow to have blessed tomorrow night. We are 70 days away from Easter and 17 days away from Ash Wednesday. Are you praying about your Lent?
Saving Money…
A soccer mom friend signed up for Ibotta so I will earn $5 the first time she uses it. I price matched at Walmart this weekend when I grocery shopped–
$2 on two bottles of Barbecue Sauce
.42 on six cans of Ranch Beans
$5.52 on 20 cans of soup
Captured…
It’s the craziest thing…this chicken is trying to get our dog’s food–out of her bowl! Our dog kills the chickens so we keep them separated. When the chickens are out, we move the dog to the pasture to the North of our house for the day. The silly chickens will go through the fence and, as you can see, the dog does nothing…nothing! But, if the dog and chickens meet each other on this side of the fence…chicken dinner!
Oh my goodness.
When we bought our home, we purchased front loaders. HATED THEM!
A year ago, we sold them and switched back to top loaders. Whirlpool. Just a matching set in the price range we could afford. And lady – we love them!
I have the THM book. Have not cracked it yet. It’s intimidating to me. I wish there was a VERY small group that could give hints and support… you know…. answer all my (what will be) ridiculous questions. HA!
Blessings Jenny.
Love reading your posts.
Em
Oh Emily I know it seems intimidating at first but you’ll be surprised how quickly you’ll start to understand. There are Facebook groups for question and answers, recipe sharing, etc, have you looked into them?
I did find one. I just started reading the book.
Thanks for the encouragement.
Great Emily! Good luck!
Don’t you just hate spending money on stuff like washing machines? And at our house things seem to go out in multiples! I hope you pick a winner. I have a front-loading Maytag so I can’t make a recommendation. I can say that anything I’ve bought made by Whirlpool (and there are many names) has been a big bust!
Chris stopped at Lowe’s on the way home and purchased a Maytag. I clicked through all their top loaders in our price range and he settled on a Maytag because more people said they would recommend their purchase to a friend. Let’s hope we get a winner!
That stinks about your washer but yay for a new one? I have no input to offer in this department since ours are old and used. But so great that you are on top of Candlemas! Through blogging (reading other blogs) I’m learning how to be a more intentional Catholic in the home. Sometimes I feel I’m ahead of the game and others well… we have no candles prepared to have blessed. This is definitely a feast we’ll be celebrating next year. So, I’ll be excited all year long and will hopefully remember to have candles in time!
I cannot tell you how many times I am about a day late in celebrating some feast day. And you know what, some days we go ahead and celebrate it because God’s not on the calendar or the clock–He’s got His own time. And sometimes I tell myself “We’ll do that next year.” And then I forget again!
I wanted a top loader too when we bought our washing machines a few years ago. We shopped around for a bit and did a big of research online, but in the end I went with Maytags (my mom’s Maytags had run for as long as I could remember!). I LOVE love LOVE my washing machines!!! π They weren’t cheap, though. π We got the top loader, HE, 5.0 cubic foot washing machine – love doing big loads of laundry at once. π We just had to move though so now we have shared laundry, with little old machines, and I miss my machines. They’re in storage for when we can get our own house… someday… π Good luck!
My husband just purchased a 4.3 Maytag. Hopefully she’ll live a very long and productive life around here, lol!
Thank goodness for emergency funds. I hope you find a good washer. It’s an essential piece of equipment for busy families. Thanks for linking with Mummy Mondays #Team MM
Our new washer should be delivered tomorrow morning. I know how I’m spending my Tuesday!
I am sorry about your washer! But thank God for an emergency fund! We took the Dave Ramsey course, and we are not perfect at it, but we work on the baby steps each month and are making progress for sure! We have a front loader, so I can’t offer any suggestions! Hang in there until your new, wonderful washer arrives!
We aren’t perfect on Dave Ramsey either, but what’s the saying…”Practice not perfection.” When we follow his counsel, we notice a big difference in not only how our money is spent, but also how we view money and purchases in general.
I am with you on the fortitude thing. Also, I had an especially terrible night of which I wanted no blame. Then this morning, I remembered the load of Ore Ida crinkle cut fries I devoured in the name of football. π
At least I paired it with a THM thick and creamy PB shake with whipped cream. π
In the name of football Michelle? Really? How long have you been eating this way, I forget? How are you feeling?
Ha. Did I mention that I don’t even like football? Excuses, excuses. I’m not sure how long, but I know it’s over a year. I have some health issues so it ‘s hard to remember just how badly I felt before. I know my emotions are much more stable this way and my sugar too. I had a white roll the other week and I could feel diabetic type symptoms right away. I’m still trying to figure out what to eat, but I know that the way I eat it does matter and this way is good.
Jenny, we just bought a Samsung top loader last weekend from Lowe’s. Delivered on Monday, and I’ve been washing ever since. So on a scant week’s experience, let me suggest the Samsung WA45H7000A. It’s the cheapest of a series of three, each larger and more pricey than the last. I couldn’t see why I’d need more than 4.3+ cubic feet of washing load space, nor why I needed to spend more than $600 on a washer, so I stayed with the low end. I used gift cards to pay, and a military discount to get the price down to under $550, including new hoses and tax. Using a Lowe’s credit card would have gotten us an additional 5% off, and if we lived in California, there’s some kind of energy rebate available as well.
Chris just bought a Maytag, 4.3 around the $600 range. He too didn’t feel we needed to spend any more than that.
I am starting back on THM today! I technically started on Saturday and had a great day, but yesterday I ate off plan for dinner and dessert. Today is a new day, and I am dedicated to staying away from sugar and refined carbs.
I have a Kenmore Oasis Elite. I have had it for eight years, and I love it. But I don’t think it gets great reviews.
I included The Littlest Way in my new post! π
Have you done a THM post? I would lover to see the how, why’s and what you’re eating.
I have not done a post on THM yet. I have been playing the on/off/on/off for about 8 months now, and in that time I have gained weight! I do not think that it is THM’s fault that I gained weight. I was dealing with some health issues and was not very active. My exercise plan was like my diet plan – on/off/on/off. Anyway, since my last round of antibiotics, I have been feeling better, and hope to successfully stay on plan. Maybe after a few months, I will have some tips and tricks. π
