Welcome to my weekly post, Daybook Online Journal here at The Littlest Way. This is a post where I gather all the ordinary things that happen or are happening in my day to day. Things like what I’m reading or listening to…eating and cleaning and learning…These are the small moments that make up my blessed daily life; and I want to remember them. I would love to read your Daybook Online Journal, just leave it in the comments section below. You can use my prompts or make up your own to include items important to you; mine change depending on season and circumstance.

Praying… We are praying the Saint Andrew Novena each night as a family. One of the intentions in my novena, as well as my entire family and my sister’s entire family is to move my grandma down here closer to us. Between myself and my sister, we could, or someone from our family could visit and sit with my grandma every single day. The thought of those days when no one goes to visit her in the retirement/nursing home/hospital weighs so heavy on our hearts. If you want to join our prayers, we would appreciate them because it will take a miracle, I believe, to get her down here; thank goodness we believe in miracles! I’m praying for direction, discernment and “go get ’em” attitude I need to turn a few things around.
Pondering… I’m pondering spiritual warfare. It’s for real. The enemy wants to kill, steal and destroy our families…for real…period. What might be seen as “growing pains” “just they way they are” or some other flippant excuse…well, take a look with spiritual eyes and you’ll see something entirely different.
Listening to… Right now Anna is practicing piano. Those first couple of years of piano practice are rough. But now, it’s a lovely piano recital or concert in my own living room.
Reading… My large print Bible
A Year With the Saints: Daily Meditations with the Holy Ones of God
Sunday we read The Miracle of St. Nicholas and this Sunday we will read Lucia: Saint of Light
Around the House… I’m starting to be very aware of the toll having Chris traveling for long extended periods of time took on me mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically. First, I have no idea how I could managed without the help of my older girls.
In the Kitchen… White Chili (Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook)
Tacos & salad
Cowboy Grub (Trim Healthy Mama Cookbook)
Broiled Parmesan Tilapia with Broccoli and Cauliflower
Enchiladas and Guacamole (for the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe)
Grilled Burgers
Our Domestic Church… We are praying our St. Andrew Novena, forgetfully reading our Jesse Tree devotions, sometimes remembering to light our Advent Candles, faithfully reading Tabitha’s Travels: A Family Story for Advent (last year we read Bartholomew’s Passage: A Family Story for Advent and the year before that, Jotham’s Journey: A Storybook for Advent. Highly recommended!)
Saving Money… Chris’ travels are over and hunting season–at least the camping part of it–are over. My meal plans have been lax and frequent trips to the store have been a given. Neither of these practices save money.

We’re also reading Tabitha this year! Love the series!
May God’s will be done in regards to your grandma!

Thank you Debbi. Are you all enjoying the book? We are. He is a master story teller to be able to interweave all these stories isn’t he?!

Thanking God for:
— a great visit with my college suitemate, including going to Mass and confession
— finding my way home in the dark without a working GPS
— my family making dinner so we can eat together when I finally make it home
— a magnificent Catholic women’s group that meets weekly
Praying:
— that my one Advent meltdown will be the only one this season
— for intentions from my women’s group and my “virtual” friends like Jenny
Around the house:
— need to have some serious ironing sessions. The pile is so big that I am sure we need to purge, or at least let things wear out and not replace them
— almost done with all non-tree decorating
In the kitchen:
— defrosting mahi-Mahi that my husband caught this Summer. 1 hour in the crockpot with butter and lemon pepper: yum!
— going to make an Apple cobbler and some cranberry- Apple relish to use up some fruit
— the freezer is so full that I am planning a freezer/pantry challenge for the week of Christmas. Once I buy the needed baking supplies and fresh goods next week, let’s see if I can stay out of the grocery store until the new year!
Jenny says
Oh Kaethe, thank you for the prayers. I have been feeling the pull for some community time with women from my church. We’ll see where this leads huh? I always try to avoid the grocery store until after the new year, lol!
Katie says
Your family is in my prayers regarding your Grandma. Thank you for the meal/recipe info., and have a blessed Christmas.
Jenny says
Thanks Katie. A few of the prayers have already been answered, although not the one for my grandma yet.
