Today’s Catholic Journaling Bible post is so much fun! If you’ve thought about Bible Journaling but were unsure of your artistic ability, how you would even begin, what you would do, I think you’ll love this post. I scoured Instagram looking for lovely examples of Catholic Bible Journaling, tough job, I know! I found multiple examples that I think just might convince you to give Bible Journaling a try.
Let’s start with one of the simplest ways to begin using a Catholic Journaling Bible or any Bible for that matter. Washi tape! If you have not tried Washi tape you must! It’s fun, simple, easy, and removable/repositionable. It instantly adds style and color to your Bible, planner, envelopes, etc. Illustrated Faith has some of the prettiest Bible Journaling Washi tape I’ve found.
Here’s an example from Denise at Stones and beams using Washi tape on the first page of each book of the Bible. So pretty! Now, I have done this with one of my Bibles and it was a tad time-consuming. But that could just be me because about halfway into it I was done. It had held my attention long enough and I was over it. I am happy to report I pushed through and love how it looks!
Here’s another example of just jumping into Catholic Bible Journaling. This example is for the people who don’t like their handwriting. Kate at Creative Catholic used printable Bible Margin Doodle Stickers to decorate the margins of her Bible. This is a lovely way to add creative depth to the margins of your Catholic Journaling Bible. Add some Washi tape to adhere it in the margins and wa-la! You could even just use the Washi down one side so the margin doodle could be lifted and written underneath if you’d like to add some notes or prayers.
I love this example from Kate. Who thinks they need fancy art supplies–and yes, I do consider Washi tape fancy, lol! Kate proves we can use what we have. This cute design could be done with crayons, colored pencils or markers. This is your Bible, your thoughts, and your time with God; enjoy it!
And how about one more example from Kate. See the Washi across the top, instant pop of color and style. Next she used a marker or highlighter. Simple and lovely.
Are you starting to think, just maybe you could try your hand at Bible Journaling? This next example will prove it. Katherine simply used stamps. The Holy Family stamp is from her shop and I’ve seen those lettered stamps everywhere from Wal-Mart to Hobby Lobby. Grab an inexpensive stamp pad and you’re ready! You don’t have to worry about drawing, tracing, or lettering. *Now until July 7 use the code LITTLESTWAY in her shop for 15% off.*
Katherine also sells watercolor stickers as a digital download in her shop. I printed my set on clear sticker paper but here she printed on cardstock. You can cut these out and add them as bookmarks. You could also glue them into your Bible or use Washi tape to either adhere them firmly or just on one side so you can flip them in or out to add notes to the back side.
I love this example from Denise. She took notes in the margin and then boxed them in with different shades of blue.
And speaking of writing, Kristen from Kristen Combo has this beautiful entry in her Catholic Journaling Bible. For those who think their handwriting is terrible, who cares?! You know what I see in this picture? A conversation with God. Is there anything more beautiful?
This simple page from Denise just makes me happy. The pretty colors, the handwriting, and the little flowers sprinkled across the page. We can do this ya’ll and anyone who tells us or whispers in our ear that we can’t is a liar trying to keep us from spending time with God!
One more from Denise. Many people ask about covering the words of the Scriptures. Nowhere in Scripture does it say you cannot cover the words. This is strictly a personal preference decision. I would rather see a Bible that has been ‘decorated’ and the words covered than a dusty Bible on the shelf. (My personal preference is to work only in the margins, but I appreciate the beauty of others who spread out across the page.)
Katherine has beautiful hand-lettering skills! I love scrolling her Instagram feed seeing her latest work. My hand-lettering is non existent compared to this example. I’m totally ok with that because hand-lettering is not my skill set. As a matter of fact, trying to do hand-lettering stresses me out and makes me feel like a total failure. So I don’t do it. Simple as that.
Here are two more beautiful hand-lettered pages from Katherine. I love the simplicity of them. Just a girl and her pen.
On the other end of the color spectrum, look at this pretty example from Nikki at trinichiqn. She likes her color and she’s not afraid to use it…or maybe she is but does it anyway! Go Nikki!
Look at this pretty example from Nikki. Color, stickers, die cuts, and handwriting all add up to make this beautiful Bible Journaling example.
And finally, one of my favorite Bible Journaling friends is Sue at Smowteach. I don’t know if she does this intentionally (I need to ask her) but I love these minimalist pages that are color coordinated through an entire page.
And Sue is not afraid to get fancy in her Bible. (Note, this Bible is not the Catholic Journaling Bible but same idea.)
But her simple hand-lettering is just as beautiful. Add some stickers and Washi tape and a lovely Bible Journaling page.
I hope these Catholic Journaling Bible examples gave you the necessary confidence to try Bible Journaling–if you want to. You can still enjoy God’s presence and friendship without Bible Journaling. But if you’ve been wishing you could…I’m telling you, you can!
The Catholic Journaling Bible is God sent. Scripture has taken on a new path for me and many more women from my church that meet weekly to share in our daily scripture readings journal entries.
What a great post, Jenny! Thanks for including me. I hope that people will see from these examples that you don’t need to be an artist or have tons of supplies to document in your bible what God is teaching you.
Wow! This looks so cool!
I love this, I’ve seen some of these before but I there are some that are new to me. For the record I am afraid of using so much colour but sometimes you just have to go with it. Thank you for including me
Look at all this lovely Bible Journaling! And thanks so much for including me 🙂
Of course! I love seeing your Bible Journaling in your feed!
