This post is part of my 31 Days of Bible Quotes and today let’s consider Bible quotes and music. I mentioned in yesterday’s post about how I listened to music when I was in a fierce battle for my mind. Not only was music a necessary distraction–it helped me to “get out of my own head,” it also had the power to direct my thoughts. There were some days when I just needed a really good song–and I’m not talking Beethoven–to clear my head. I would head out on an errand by myself, windows down and music up louder than I would want my children to listen to. I sang along and for that moment, I was in the moment. There were other times when I would turn a CD player on in my bedroom with a Gregorian Chant CD on auto replay all day long. I would steal away in there or even just walk by and it was just enough to take the edge off my troubled mind. Still other times, I would listen to or sing silly children’s song with my children. Even if we just made up silly songs, it was a necessary distraction. And finally, hymns. I gained a love for hymns and Gospel music in my childhood…and also “Honky Tonk,” a child of divorce grows up in different homes literally and figuratively. So let me share some of my favorites that fit the category of Bible quotes and music–no “Honky Tonk” or “Classic Rock” in this post.

I listened to Kari Jobe on repeat during that time, Songs such as: Be Still which quotes Psalm 37:7
And Singing Over Me, a reference to Zephaniah 3:17
Your Love Oh Lord, Psalm 36
At the Foot of the Cross, Isaiah 61:1-3
Before the Morning by Josh Wilson
Psalm 88 by Danielle Rose
These are a few of the songs I would listen to to soothe my weary soul and troubled mind.
